If you’re familiar with Vincent van Gogh’s story, then you’re already aware of the fierce brotherly bond between the world renown artist and his younger brother Theo.
What strikes me is how well they documented their relationship.
Theo held onto his brother’s letters. Several are blown up and on display at the Van Gogh Museum Editions Pop-Up Tour.
Had the two men lived today, the texts between them would have been deleted once storage ran low on their phones and this beautiful bit of history would be lost forever.
Framespotting at the Van Gogh Museum Editions Pop-Up Exhibit
I do what I can to avoid malls.
However, while scoping out fun things to do around the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, I found the Van Gogh Museum‘s pop-up exhibit, at the King of Prussia Mall.
This discovery gave me great pause because I dislike shopping malls, but I LOVE anything “pop-up”.
Restaurants. Shops. Exhibits.
Although I felt torn, no surprise here, I ventured into the shopping center.
But not as torn as this ticket!*
* I assume someone in Amsterdam has a sense of humor and the ticket tearing off his ear is intentional.
You know I will be framing this : )
The Pop-Up Tour is well worth the US$5 admission!
The display will remain on view there until October 14, 2018. Then it will travel across the US through the end of 2019. You can find the dates and places here.
A few tips when visiting the Van Gogh Museum Pop-Up Exhibit
There are nine paintings/editions on display. The reproductions in this exhibit are all made from paintings in the Van Gogh Museum‘s collection. Meaning, only paintings belonging to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam have been reproduced and are on display in the mall. So, no Starry Night, but there is a lovely Sunflower! And, of course, the Almond Blossom I have smathered all over this post is there.
Admission benefits the museum. So do the sales in the gift shop. Can you say new glasses case?
You can see and read everything in 30 minutes. Longer if you’re as bad as I am at getting a selfie of yourself with the Vincent displays.
