If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
You’ve heard that bit of wisdom, right?
In art circles that saying was contorted into If it ain’t Baroque, don’t fix it.
But you know what?
Art is subjective.
I personally like ornate and extravagant measures. Especially when it comes to frames.
Of course, there’s more to the Baroque era in art than metallic finishes over scrolly, florid and decorative details. There is also a change in the way artists used light. The period cast more shadows than the Renaissance and emotion moved to the forefront.
If you look at the frame I chose in the graphic above, it’s light that provides the contrast between the highlights and the shadows. It draws your eye. And delivers wow.
Trends and tastes swing back and forth, like a pendulum, between plain and fancy. However, wherever we are in the cycle, there is always a place for a gaudy Baroque frame.
At least, I think so.
If it Ain’t Baroque, Then Fix it.
I made myself a t-shirt.
Since the garment has yet to arrive from Redbubble, I drew a pic of me wearing it so you could see.
Let’s just treat this as a #tbt (Throwback Thursday), shall we? Back to a time when I weighed *rerba*sckreba* pounds less and wore shoulder pads. Because both drawing and realistic body image are hard : )
The thing about Redbubble, once you upload art you can have them print it on practically anything.
Like home decor…
phone cases.
I got a little carried away.
I was just trying to follow my own advice and fix it.
So, are you a fan of the Baroque?
